The Wonders of Mead Making

Burton Beasley is coming from Gaston County on May 8 to share his tips and tricks for making mead. OCBA members are invited to share samples of their mead making too.

Beasley is owner and operator of Beasley Honey Co. He operates about 200 colonies in Gaston County for pollination, nucleus production, queen production, and honey and wax products.

He is a North Carolina State Beekeepers Association (NCSBA) Master Craftsman and an Eastern Apicultural Society Master Beekeeper, former NCSBA Second Vice President and Regional Director, and a past President of the Gaston County Beekeepers Association.

We’ll also have a Mead Up! In addition to bringing potluck appetizers and desserts at 6 pm, we invite you to bring mead that you have made or perhaps some especially nice mead that you’ve bought. We will have small cups to share samples.

The social time will be followed by Hive Talk at 6:30 pm, and our program at 7 pm with a short business update afterward.

The meeting will be in-person at the Orange County offices of the NC Cooperative Extension —  1020 US Highway 70 West in Hillsborough.
